Archive for December, 2009

Wasn’t it just a couple of years ago that we were partying “like it’s 1999”?  And Y2K was the big crisis of the day.  Current times make those things seem insignificant.  It’s amazing (not necessarily in a good way) how much the world has changed in 10 years.  No 9/11, no war on terror, no unemployment over 10% and no global financial crises at the end of the last decade.  I hope the next decade brings better times but it looks challenging.

Lets start this one out on the right note and support Jonah Street and Team Rally PanAm in their effort to conquer the Dakar Rally race in South America.  You can follow the action on Versus T.V. starting Jan. 4th with half-hour daily updates for the 16 days of the race.  You can also follow the team posts on Twitter @ Rallypanam.

Last year Jonah was in second place before he was forced to retire from the race due to a wrist injury.  Jonah Street has what it takes to win this race but with the Dakar you also need a bit of good luck to go your way as well and stay injury free for the duration of the race.  Not to mention a huge effort to keep the bike in good shape mechanically.  The race starts in Buenos Aires on New Years Day and covers 5,000 miles of South America for the next 16 days.

2010 KTM 990 SMT

KTM has announced six new models to be brought into the U.S. market for 2010.  Here is a link to Dealernews.com with the announcement: http://www.dealernews.com/dealernews/LATEST+NEWS/KTM-to-Import-Six-New-Streetbikes/ArticleStandard/Article/detail/643105?contextCategoryId=48472

Petrie Motorsports is currently negotiating with KTM to be the only full-line (dirt, dual sport, super-moto, adventure and street) KTM sport motorcycle dealer in the state of Wisconsin.  We’ve had strong interest in the brand new 990 SMT and the awsome RC8 models and we want to be able to offer our customers the full line of KTM motorcycles.  Everyone is aware that the economy is bad and the sales numbers are down at Petrie Motorsports as they are at nearly every motorsports dealer in the country, but we want to continue to represent the full line of KTM bikes and be able to offer great service to our customers.

KTM has changed the requirements (upped the ante considerably) to be a “street” dealer and as a result many of the existing dealers are not going to be handling the street or even the adventure or dual sport models.  At Petrie Motorsports we feel that much of our future will be in those areas and we are prepared to make the commitment required to sell the full line.  However, it would be nice to get some feedback from our customers and followers to know if we are on the right track here.  What do you think of the KTM street models and are you in the market for one anytime soon?  Are you willing to put down a deposit on one to secure the model you want?  How would you be affected if there was no full line dealer in the state of Wisconsin?  Would that impact your decision to buy a KTM?

Give us your feed back and we’ll put it to good use to help us make our decisions going forward.  Click on the comment tab below and let us know.

2010 KTM RC8 R Akrapovic

If you are interested in any of the 2010 KTM street models please let us know and leave a comment here by clicking on the comment icon.  We would like to get a feel for how many bikes we need to order and some of the models we will only order with a deposit in advance (such as the RC8 R Red Bull or Akrapovic models).  We have MSRP pricing available if you email us (wpetrie@petriemotorsports.com) or call (262)723-5518.
