Shot from our spring dual sport ride

I am gearing up for the T.W.A.T. (Trans WI Adventure Trail) ride leaving on Thursday, with Craig & Harrison.  For those not familiar with the t.w.a.t,  it is a route from the southwestern border of WI to the very tip of northern WI, all off-road (at least most of it).  As usual everything comes down to the last minute.  I have to swap the 17″ street tires out for the 18″/21″ dual sport tires on my KTM 690 Enduro R and get everything packed up and ready to go.  No camping equipment since we decided it would just be easier to stay at cheap motels.  Craig has a nice route planned out on the GPS and we’ll have some pretty full days of riding.   Day 1 – 370, day2 – 250, day 3 – 250 and day 4 – 325!  Keep in mind that about 85% of this will be off-road/gravel roads.  1,200 miles off-road, 4 days.  No stopping to smell the flowers.  We’re calling it the Off-Road Iron Butt.

Stay tuned here and after the ride I’ll post up some pictures and a ride report.

The goverment is at it again…this time trying to ban off-road motorcycles, atv’s and bicycles from over 9 million acres in Utah!   These are very popular areas such as Moab, San Rafael Swell and Chimney Rock riding areas, among others.  The radical green movement has been pushing this agenda with the new administration and seem to be getting  traction.

“The measure is totally unreasonable and completely unacceptable,” said Ed Moreland, AMA vice president for government relations. “Continued responsible access to public lands is a vitally important right for current and future generations.

“This is just the latest step in a massive land grab being orchestrated nationwide by anti-access forces who are seeking to eliminate responsible off-highway riding on public lands by any means necessary,” Moreland said. “They want to turn all public land into their own exclusive playground.

Earlier this year the Obama administration fastracked and signed into law a 2 million acre wilderness designation with very little public imput and now they’re attempting to slide another massive land grab under the radar before the public can have any input or comment.  It is very important that you contact your federal representative and oppose this now.

While U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona, who is chairman of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands, has yet to officially announce his intention to hold the hearing, the AMA has confirmed that H.R. 1925 will be considered on Thursday, Oct. 1.
